To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what has been the EEC market share of footwear imports from Taiwan and South Korea, for each of the last five years; and what have been the corresponding figures for the EEC market share of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Atkins

The EC market share of footwear imports from the United Kingdom was 1 per cent. for each of the years 1983 to 1987.

Figures for the EC market share of footwear imports from Taiwan and South Korea are available for 1986 and 1987 and are given in the table:

1 The EC includes Portugal and Spain from 1986.

2 Defined as apparent consumption viz. production less exports plus imports.
