§ Mr. EvennettTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make it his policy to establish a licensing and regulatory body for bus services in Greater London which has no direct or indirect commercial interest in the operation of such services.
§ Mr. PortilloLondon Regional Transport has a statutory duty to provide or secure the provision of public transport services for London, and to consult the relevant authorities and persons when it proposes to introduce, vary or withdraw bus services. Operators of bus services other than these under the control of LRT must obtain a licence from the traffic commissioner, which is an independent statutory authority.
