HC Deb 20 February 1989 vol 147 c460W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he proposes to take following the number of successful appeals by former shipyard workers who had been denied unemployment benefit for 13 weeks, in respect of workers in other trades who have been made redundant under similar circumstances; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The decision of the independent adjudicating authorities in relation to a redundant shipyard worker relates specifically to that particular worker and his terms of redundancy. Where applicable, British Shipbuilders workers whose circumstances were identical can have their benefit position reviewed. The decision has no direct effect on workers made redundant in other industries.
