HC Deb 20 February 1989 vol 147 c497W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made by his Department in considering any necessary amendments to law and practice following from the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Robert Weekes, 2 March 1987, and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The implications of the judgment are still under consideration. Further applications by life sentence prisoners have been heard by the European Commission of Human Rights and we shall take account of the progress of those applications in considering whether any amendments may be necessary to our law and practice.
