To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of the state-owned commercial sector in 1979 has now been transferred to the private sector.

Since 1979, around 45 per cent. of the state-owned sector of industry has been transferred to the private sector.

2 The estimates for 1988 compare the average level of manufacturing productivity in the first three quarters (except for France and the United Kingdom, for which data are available for the first half and the whole year respectively) with the average level in 1987 as a whole.
