To ask the Prime Minister if there have been any changes in the responsibilities of the Secretary of State for Health and of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as a result of the establishment of the committee which she will chair, as announced by the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Donald Acheson, on Friday 10 February.

The Prime Minister There has been no change in the respective responsibilities of the Secretary of State for Health and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The plans to which the Chief Medical Officer referred on 10 February, and on which the Secretary of State for Health announced further details on 14 February at column 180, concern the establishment of an expert committee on the microbiological safety of food, under an independent chairman.
