HC Deb 17 February 1989 vol 147 cc422-3W
Mr. Onslow

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now invite water authorities in England and Wales to provide him with a forecast of the adequacy of water supplies in their areas for the coming nine months, together with an indication of their plans to limit abstraction from any rivers into which there have, within the past two years, been discharges of effluent which have consistently breached discharge consent standards.

Mr. Howard

We do not consider it necessary to take the action suggested. Suitable arrangements to monitor the effects of low winter rainfall have been agreed with the water industry associations.
