HC Deb 17 February 1989 vol 147 c401W
Mr. Salmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what studies have been carried out by(a) his Department and (b) the Scottish tourist board on the impact on the relative tourist industry in Scotland of large-scale luxury developments, and small-scale indigenous developments.

Mr. Lang

The Industry Department for Scotland has undertaken a study of the net impact of a sample of projects assisted by the Scottish tourist board. This work was undertaken as a contribution to an evaluation of the cost effectiveness of the National tourist boards' scheme of financial assistance to tourist projects.

The Scottish tourist board conducts feasibility, research and planning studies, details of which are contained in the board's annual reports, copies of which are available in the Library. The board also undertakes ongoing monitoring of projects which they assist.
