Mr. Hunter

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his policy with regard to changing the Montreal protocol to restrict the production of halon 1301 and encourage the use of halon 1211 to combat air pollution.

The Government's policy is set out in paragraph 8.10(iii) of their reply to the first report from the Environment Committee, session 1987–88, HC 270–1 "Air Pollution" published in December 1988 (Cm. 552).
