HC Deb 17 February 1989 vol 147 c428W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the adequacy of the present numbers of environmental health officers to provide a sufficient level of inspection of water cooling systems with respect to the presence of legionella.

Mr. Freeman

[holding answer 13 February 1989]: I have been asked to reply.

The staffing of environmental health departments is a matter for local authorities who take into account their statutory responsibilities for the enforcement of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
