HC Deb 17 February 1989 vol 147 c399W
Mr. Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to his Union of Soviet Socialist Republics counterpart about the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the Wakhan corridor in Afghanistan; what response he has received; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

We have repeatedly called upon the Soviet Union to withdraw all its forces from Afghanistan. A Soviet Government statement published in Pravda on 16 February announced that withdrawal had been completed. We have no reason to believe that there are now any Soviet troops in Afghanistan's Wakhan corridor.
