Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) if he has any evidence of the incidence of(a) salmonella enteritidis and (b) any other strain of salmonella in (i) farmed salmon and (ii) other farmed fish;

(2) what is the procedure for monitoring the produce of salmon farms to ensure its safety for human consumption.

[holding answer 23 January 1989]We are not aware of any evidence which shows that salmonella enteritidis, or any other strain of salmonella, has been isolated from farmed salmon or other farmed fish.
