HL Deb 16 February 1989 vol 504 c383WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many commercial contracts has BNFL made since 1973 with foreign customers to cover (a) uranium enrichment, (b) nuclear fuel fabrication, (c) spent nuclear fuel reprocessing, and what is the value of each contract at present day monetary levels in sterling.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Energy (Baroness Hooper)

Commercial contracts for uranium enrichment are negotiated by URENCO Ltd. on behalf of British Nuclear Fuels plc and its partners in the Federal Republic of Germany and the Netherlands. I am advised that 40 such contracts with foreign customers have been concluded since 1973. During the same period I understand that BNFL has entered into no new agreements with foreign customers for the supply of fabricated fuel. The company has signed 34 contracts with foreign customers for the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. The financial terms of these contracts are commercially confidential.
