To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has to improve standards of food safety.

Mr. Ryder

I shall maintain my Department's comprehensive food surveillance programme and ensure its future development in line with changing circumstances in the food production industry.

I shall remain ready to take action wherever the results of our surveillance work show this to be necessary.
