Dr. Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will publish, for each local authority in England, its capital allocation, in total for 1989–90, showing the percentage change from (a) 1988–89, and (b) 1981–82;

(2) if he will publish, by region and in total for England, capital allocations to local authorities for 1989–90, showing the percentage change from: (a) 1988–89, and (b) 1981–82.

[holding answer 14 February 1989]The information requested for 1989–90 is not yet available by region and individual local authority. Table 1 gives the total of capital allocations in 1989–90 for England and the percentage changes over 1981–82 and 1988–89. Local authorities can spend a proportion of their capital receipts in addition to their allocations. Therefore, table 1 also includes information about spending power.
