To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will indicate how many successful prosecutions were brought against the Thames water authority in(a) 1987 and (b) 1988, to the extent that information is available, for (i) causing pollution or (ii) in any other ways failing to meet their obligations as a water authority.

In 1987 there was one successful prosecution against Thames water authority for the failure of a sewage treatment works to comply with the terms of its discharge consent.
