HC Deb 14 February 1989 vol 147 c141W
15. Mr. Favell

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on his recent crackdown on fraudulent benefit claims.

Mr. Fowler

My Department's fraud investigations during 1988 led to savings of around £65 million and to 90,000 people withdrawing their claims to benefit. A serious problem of benefit fraud persists and we are maintaining the drive against this.
