HC Deb 08 February 1989 vol 146 cc727-8W
Mr. David Nicholson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will list in theOfficial Report, and according to the latest information available, the number of authorised permanent gipsy sites within each district of the counties of Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon.

Mr. Chope

[holding answer 31 January 1989]: Authorised permanent gipsy sites can be either private or local authority operated. The Department does not hold information on the numbers of authorised private sites. Information on the location of private sites is held by local authorities. Information provided by the district councils for the Department's biannual count exercise reveals that at July 1988 there were 49 caravans on private sites in Somerset; 52 in Wiltshire; three in Dorset and 17 in Devon.
