§ Mr. ShersbyTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what response he has made to proposals by the European Commission for revised nutritional labelling; and if he will make it his policy to resist any extension of the four principal nutrients now recommended for use in the United Kingdom and specified inCodex Alimentarious.
§ Mr. RyderThe European Commission's proposals on nutrition labelling are currently under discussion at Council working group level. I am aware of the food industry's view that nutrition labelling should be restricted to energy, protein, carbohydrate and fat with optional declarations of other nutrients, as recommended by theCodex Alimentarius.
