HL Deb 06 February 1989 vol 503 c1424WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have ascertained the cause of the outbreak of salmonella in the House of Lords which occurred during the last session.

The Lord Privy Seal (Lord Belstead)

As I indicated in Answer to the noble Lord, Lord Hunter of Newington, on 15th June 1988 (Official Report, Vol. 498, col. 363), the report on the salmonella outbreak from the Medical Officer for Environmental Health for the City of Westminster indicated that the cause of the outbreak was found to be salmonella typhimurium DT 49, and the vehicle by which infection was caused was egg-based products, in particular mayonnaise.
