§ Mr. Cyril TownsendTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on what plans London Regional Transport has to purchase additional rolling stock for the Docklands light railway.
§ Mr. PortilloTen vehicles were ordered in July 1987 from BREL. Following competitive tendering, London Regional Transport has recently awarded a contract for a further 10 vehicles costing £9.85 million to BN Ferroviares et Metalliques SA, a Belgian-based company. BN has associated with Hawker Siddeley Rail projects, which will be supplying the major sub-systems. The additional rolling stock is part of the programme for upgrading the capacity of the Docklands light railway and extending it to Bank station.
