HC Deb 02 February 1989 vol 146 c384W
59. Mr. William Powell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of Vietnamese refugees accepted to settle in the United Kingdom to date; and whether provision for Vietnamese refugees will be increased.

Mr. Renton

Between 1979 and the end of the third quarter of 1988 some 20,400 Vietnamese refugees were admitted for settlement in the United Kingdom. For the future, I refer to the announcement made by my right hon. Friend the Member for Enfield, North (Mr. Eggar) on 22 December, columns 588 and 589.
