HC Deb 02 February 1989 vol 146 c388W
Mr. Atkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what guidance is provided to police authorities on the provision of neighbourhood watch signs.

Mr. John Patten

There is no central guidance on the provision of neighbourhood watch signs. The permission of the highway authority—usually the county council or the London borough council—is needed when a sign is to be erected on highway land, and some authorities use this as a means of achieving standardisation of signs.
