To ask the Minister for the Arts, pursuant to his written answer to the hon. Member for Warley, East on 24 January,Official Report, column 486, which figures of museum and gallery attendances during 1988 in his answer were actual and which were estimated.

The term "estimated" allows for a margin of error at those institutions where the number of visitors is counted manually. In such cases figures are usually regarded as being accurate to within 5 per cent.
