§ Mr. LangMy right hon. and learned Friend last met representatives of the European Commission on 4 October 1988 when he led a mission to Brussels organised by Scottish Financial Enterprise. The mission consisted mainly of representatives of financial sector companies but included representatives of manufacturing industry, local govern-ment and the Scottish Trades Union Congress. The purposes of the mission were to allow the participants to learn about the likely effects of the completion of the single European market on their areas of interest and to ensure that the Commission was fully aware of the distinctive charac-teristics and potential of the Scottish financial community.
