When they intend to establish the Radio Authority.

My right honourable friend the Home Secretary is setting up the Radio Authority in shadow form on 1st January 1990. The appointment of the noble Lord, Lord Chalfont, as Chairman has already been announced. My right honourable friend has today appointed the following to become members on 1st January:

  • Mr John Grant
  • Mr Richard Hooper
  • Mrs Jill McIvor
  • Mr Ranjit Sondhi

One further appointment will be made in due course. Subject to parliamentary approval of the Broadcasting Bill, my right honourable friend intends to establish the authority with its full statutory powers on 1st January 1991.
