To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many firemen have been(a) killed, (b) seriously injured and (c) slightly injured in the past 10 years (i) in accidents while proceeding to an emergency call and (ii) while at the scene of an emergency call.

During 1979–1988 fire brigades in England and Wales reported firefighters killed and injured in the course of duty as follows:

The information is not available in the form requested. However, the following table sets out the number of deaths of police officers on duty during the years 1979 to 1988 inclusive, divided between homicides and other deaths, including accidental deaths.
