§ Mr. LuceOn 1 April 1989 there were 1,555 non-departmental public bodies. That is 93 fewer than last year and 612 fewer than in 1979. The bodies are listed in "Public Bodies 1989" published today. A copy has been placed in the Library of the House.
In the year to 31 March 1989, 128 bodies were abolished and 35 new bodies set up. Funding rose by approximately 2.7 per cent. and members of staff employed fell by 12.1 per cent.
