HL Deb 18 December 1989 vol 514 c108WA
Baroness Masham of Ilton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps are being taken to curb recent vandalism on trains and signal boxes which endangers the lives of passengers and railwaymen.

Viscount Ullswater

Both the British Railways Board and the British Transport Police are very much aware of the incidence of vandalism. All steps to curb the problem are strictly matters for those organisations. All passenger-carrying coaches are checked regularly and any damage caused by wanton acts should be readily detected. Interference with signalling equipment to an extent which could endanger lives is extremely rare and sensitive areas are kept secure.
