HC Deb 15 December 1989 vol 163 c845W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what information he has on the amount of charity donations used by health authorities towards Health Service funding.

Mr. Freeman

NHS trust funds may be used for any purpose relating to the Health Service subject to the specific terms of individual trusts. The 1988–89 summarised account of trust funds held by regional and district health authorities and special health authorities for the London postgraduate teaching hospitals and special trustees record total expenditure of £122.6 million excluding transfers to reserve (subject to audit). This sum includes some expenditure which would not have been appropriate for Exchequer funding.
