To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has any plans to introduce a scheme of humane slaughter labelling of meat.

The slaughter of any livestock whose meat is intended for sale must be carried out in accordance with statutory welfare conditions. The food advisory committee is to undertake a review of food labelling and will be considering very carefully the question of additional labelling to indicate farming practices and methods of slaughter.
