HC Deb 13 December 1989 vol 163 c719W
61. Mr. Hunter

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a further statement on his policy for increasing the provision of low-cost rented accommodation.

Mr. Chope

The Government have taken a variety of measures to encourage the supply of rented housing, including the deregulation of private letting and the encouragement of private investment in housing associations. In addition public funding for the Housing Corporation is being substantially increased from £815 million this year to £1,736 million by 1992–93, mainly for the development of new rented housing by housing associations.
