HC Deb 13 December 1989 vol 163 cc712-3W
38. Mrs. Mahon

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many houses for rent have been provided with the aid of city grants; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

One city grant project providing dwellings specifically for rent has so far been approved —the construction of 22 flats at Coach lane, North Shields.

89. Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many authorities in West Yorkshire are considered for city grants in their area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

Applications for city grant are invited from three of the five local authority areas in West Yorkshire. The new grant has been very successful since its introduction in May 1988 and the available resources are being fully utilised by projects within the areas from which applications are invited.

117. Mr. Andrew Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many city grants have been awarded to Nottingham since 1988; and what is their total value.

Mr. Moynihan

Ten city grants totalling £7.5 million have been approved to support projects in Nottingham. This is the largest number of grants approved for any local authority area.
