To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will give a breakdown by region of the numbers of women who are in receipt of war widows pensions paid by his Department.

We are looking at the workings of the attendance allowance scheme as part of the reexamination of disability benefits following the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys disability surveys. We have already announced our intention to abolish the six–months qualifying period for people with terminal illness.
