HC Deb 12 December 1989 vol 163 c616W
105. Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what recent representations he has received on the question of compensation for haemophiliacs who have been infected with HIV as a consequence of treatment in the National Health Service.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The Department has received more than 300 representations on this question but compensation is a matter for the courts.

Recently we announced that an additional £19 million has been offered to the Macfarlane Trust, again on an entirely ex gratia basis. For the details I refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. and learned Friend gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Salisbury (Mr. Key) on 23 November at columns 11–12.
