HL Deb 07 December 1989 vol 513 c1115WA
Lord Macaulay of Bragar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

(1) whether they intend to take steps in Scotland to protect the publication of material tending to identify children involved in civil cases, and in particular divorce and custody disputes, in light of the protection now afforded to the identification of children in criminal cases; and

(2) if they have no plans to do so, why such protection should not be given in the interests of the welfare of the children involved.

The Lord Advocate (Lord Fraser of Carmyllie)

It is considered that the powers presently available to the Scottish courts in civil proceedings are adequate to enable the court to prevent identification of children.
