§ Mr. Tony BanksTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many officers of the West Midlands serious crime squad who were recently transferred to non-operation duties were involved in the Birmingham pub bombing investigation.
§ Mr. Peter LloydOn 26 October in response to a question from the hon. Member for Halifax (Mrs. Mahon) my right hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr. Hurd) replied that one member of the serious crime squad, which was disbanded in the summer, was involved in the investigation. I regret that this was incorrect. Further inquiry has established that a total of four officers who were members of the serious crime squad when it was disbanded had been involved in interviewing those convicted of the Birmingham pub bombing.
