HC Deb 05 December 1989 vol 163 c198W
37. Mr. Grocott

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the average working week in manufacturing industry in the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Nicholls

It is estimated from the 1988 labour force survey (LFS) that in spring 1988, the average number of hours usually worked (including paid and unpaid overtime but excluding meal-breaks) by persons in employment in the manufacturing industries in Great Britain, was 42.3 hours per week.
