HC Deb 27 April 1989 vol 151 cc600-1W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what progress he has made, in conjunction with the Welsh Language Board, in discussing the changes to legislation with regard to the Welsh language; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

My right hon. Friend has already taken action via the Local Government and Housing Bill to allow local authorities in Wales to adopt the Welsh version of their official title. The Welsh Language Board has made good progress in considering a number of other areas where difficulties have arisen with regard to the use of Welsh in the past and my right hon. Friend will consider its proposals as they emerge.
