HC Deb 27 April 1989 vol 151 c629W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the significance for the momentum of cross-border security of the announcement of the determination to intensify co-operation over border security in paragraph 2 of the communiqué of the meeting of the Anglo-Irish conference on 5 April.

Mr. Ian Stewart

[holding answer 24 April 1989]: The brutal murders of Chief Superintendent Breen and Superintendent Buchanan represented an attack on security co-operation. Far from diminishing the determination of the two sides to work closely together, they have actually reinforced it and, in particular, both police forces will work closely together to the fullest extent to ensure that those guilty of this and other crimes are brought to justice.
