Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what information he has about the practice of some health authorities of paying secretaries on the general adtrinstrative grade plus proficiency allowances; and if he will give a statement.

Mr. Mellor

We do not hold such information centrally. The grading of posts and payment of allowances are matters for individual employing authorities in accordance with agreements reached in the administrative and clerical staffs Whitley council. Under existing agreements proficiency allowances are not payable to staff on the general adminstrative grade.
