HC Deb 18 April 1989 vol 151 cc125-6W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will estimate the amount of timber lost in the storm which struck England during October 1987; and what is the total cost of the measures taken as a result of the storm.

Mr. Donald Thompson

It is estimated that some 4 million cu.m of timber were blown down in England in the October 1987 storm. The Forestry Commission is expecting to pay in the region of £3 million in supplementary grants for the restocking of woodlands damaged in the storm.
