To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on his future plans for enterprise agencies.

Mr. Cope

Responsibility for the future development of local enterprise agencies, which are independent private sector led organisations, rests primarily with their boards and private sector backers.

The introduction of training and enterprise councils will provide those LEAs able to demonstrate high-quality service with the opportunity to contract for counselling and other enterprise programmes.
