HC Deb 18 April 1989 vol 151 c136W
19. Mr. Brazier

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he is taking to encourage mature experienced workers to remain in their jobs and not take early retirement; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

The Government believe that the age at which a person retires is a matter to be settled between the individual and the employer. As the numbers of young people decline, it will increasingly be in employers' interests to make full use of the contribution which mature, experienced workers can make, and the Government are using a range of media to put this message across.
