HC Deb 14 April 1989 vol 150 c760W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he was consulted by the President of the European Economic Community Commission before the announcement on 4 April by the president of his proposals that the United Kingdom team at the Olympic Games in 1992 should bear European Economic Community insignia and substitute an European Economic Community tune in place of the United Kingdom national anthem; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

The President of the Commission of the European Communities did not consult my Department about his announcement on 4 April about the 1992 Olympic Games. His proposals are for the British Olympic Association to consider. I understand that it is opposed to them.
