To ask the Prime Minister what policy proposals she has to tackle the adverse non-oil balance of payments.

The rise in the non-oil current account deficit has primarily reflected the strength of domestic demand. The Government have responded appropriately by tightening monetary policy and the effects of this are already apparent—for example in recent figures for MO, retail sales and the housing market.
