HC Deb 13 April 1989 vol 150 cc666-7W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals he has to provide additional services in Wales for the benefit of the elderly.

Mr. Grist

The provision of services for the elderly is for local and health authorities to decide in the light of their own local circumstances.

Nonetheless in recognition of the rise in the elderly population and changes in the pattern of services for the elderly the local authority capital allocation for social services in 1989–90 has been increased by 15 per cent. over that for the previous year.

In addition central funding continues under the elderly initiative, urban programme and health/local authority joint finance.
