HC Deb 13 April 1989 vol 150 c702W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how the condition known as apnoea is categorised.

Mr. Freeman

Apnoea simply means without breath. It can be normal, as with deglutition apnoea which occurs in swallowing, or abnormal, as a result of a number of medical conditions. It may occur on a temporary basis as a consequence of treatment, for example during the administration of an anaesthetic.
