HC Deb 12 April 1989 vol 150 c604W
Mr. Norman Hogg

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many households were accepted as homeless in Scotland in the calendar years 1987 and 1988; and how many applications by households there were in those years.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Returns submitted by local authorities indicate that during 1987, 23,882 households applied to be considered under the homelessness legislation. Of these, authorities assessed 9,317 as being homeless. A comparable figure for 1988 cannot be provided at present as most local authorities still have returns outstanding.
