To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what provision is made for rates relief for sports clubs in Scotland;

(2) what additional funds have been made available to Scottish local authorities to enable sports clubs to obtain 100 per cent. rate relief.

Full account is taken of the relief that each local authority plans to give to sports clubs when calculating that authority's entitlement to revenue support grant. The cost of such relief in rate income forgone and in extra grant for 1989–90 is estimated to be £3 million.
